Plasterboard is a very common indoor wall surface but is not suitable for tiling without waterproofing.

Tiling over plasterboard involves adhering tiles to a paper surface and although this will present little problem in dry areas if the wallboard is subjected to moisture it may deteriorate causing failure.
A second vote for aquapanel here it s what we ended up having to replace the plasterboard with.
It should be a minimum 12 5mm thick when fixed to timber framing or battening and fixed in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations.
You ll only need it in the shower area the rest of the bathroom will be fine onto plasterboard.

Having had a bathroom tiled straight on to plasterboard by the previous owners of the house i would definitely not recommend it.
Before you get to it you should level the bathroom the kitchen and or the hallway walls.
I thought perhaps a thin sheet of hardboard or similar attached to the wall a couple of coats of pva onto this and then tile onto this then in a couple of years we can take the tiles off without damaging the plasterboard and re tile.
